Week 2 update
Week 3 update
Week 4 update
This past week has been a hot one here in New York. On Tuesday the “heat index” – the opposite of a “chill factor” I suppose – was 105 degrees!! Needless to say I have not been enjoying the weather. The last few nights it hasn’t gotten much below 80 even in the middle of the night. Thankfully the classrooms, cafeteria and library are all air conditioned and I have been spending a fair bit of time in them.
Despite the weather this week was a good one. My Dad and his wife Ginger were here in town and I had dinner with them a couple of evenings and they took me to two Broadway shows. On Thursday evening we saw “Dirty, Rotten Scoundrels” which was hysterical. You may remember the movie with Steve Martin. His character is played by Norbert Leo Butz who won a Tony for his performance. He was fabulous. John Lithgow is also in it and was very good. We also went and saw “Sweet Charity” with Christina Applegate. This was also very good. Christina did a good job for this being her first musical. We also spent the day sightseeing and went to “Ground Zero” (the World Trade Center site) and took the Staten Island Ferry out and back. This goes past the Statue of Liberty and provides some great views of the city. We also went to SOHO and Washington Square Park. I took a couple hundred pictures between this sight seeing and also being in Times Square where their hotel was. I will try to get those pictures online but it most likely will not be till after I am done with school.
Speaking of which – only 5 more days. Three days of classes and lots of work to do. I give a presentation on Wednesday on Sefer Yetzirah – The Book of Formation. I have a final in my Elijah class on Thursday and then a paper due for my Magic class as well. I have the presentation ready and have begun to study for the final. I have a thesis for my paper and have done a fair bit of reading but have not begun to write. I also am finishing up reading sources for my paper on Spinoza. I have one more article to read and three to write up including that and two books. I will most likely compose all of these summaries into a paper when I return to Seattle as I don’t see myself having time before that.
So, since it is already 12:30 and I should really do some more work before going to bed, I will cut this short and wish you all a good week. I will be home late next Friday and will try to post a final update and get some pictures online.
